Identity & Immigration
Navigating identity can feel complicated, especially when you’re trying to balance parts of yourself that sometimes feel at odds. We all hold so many different identities, and finding harmony among them can create tension or confusion. As an immigrant of color, I’ve found that it adds another layer to figuring out how to honor the traditions and values I grew up with, while also creating space for ways of living that feel true to me now.
In therapy, we explore all of this together. Sometimes, this looks like practicing your faith in a way that feels authentic, or noticing how switching between different languages brings up different parts of yourself. I speak both Arabic and English fluently and hope to offer you the space to express yourself in the language that feels closest to you. I practice from a cultural humility perspective, which recognizes that true cultural competence is impossible to fully achieve. It also means acknowledging that power imbalances exist and should be named and addressed in the therapy space.
This work is about helping you feel more yourself, even when your identity feels caught between worlds. It’s about holding all parts of who you are, so you can move through the world feeling seen and whole.
