Hi, I’m Zainab Akef
My education & experience
I hold a Master of Arts in Applied Clinical Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University, and have received additional training in EFT, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LH61587436) in the state of Washington . I offer services in both English & Arabic. My approach is integrative and tailored to each client’s needs, drawing on evidence-based modalities such as emotionally focused therapy, person-centered therapy, and follow an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens. I also prioritize culturally competent and identity-affirming work. In addition, I use relational and couples therapy techniques, mindfulness and stress-reduction practices, and support clients in exploring religious or spiritual identity. My goal is to create a space where clients can process emotions safely, build healthier connections, and cultivate meaningful personal growth.

A bit more personal..
I grew up in Egypt, and later moved to the U.S. for school, which has been a journey that shaped me into a blend of cultures. Learning what it means to navigate different worlds has deeply influenced how I show up, both in my personal life and in the therapy room.
Outside of work, I’m someone who people would describe as energetic, outgoing, and who deeply values community and joy. I love gathering people together, whether it’s for a big food spread during celebrations, game night, or just good coffee and conversation (I am also very much a coffee snob). You’ll often find me at concerts, comedy shows, or spending time laughing with family, especially my nieces and nephew who keep me young, often by bullying me.
